themediamanager.com: The Detroit solution and its implications: I've been reading many takes.. http://tinyurl.com/a2hcsr
In all my years in this city --- um, five --- I've never seen snow like this at this time. You climate-change doubters, come here today.
@hartleyglobe If they're colour pages, just put Xmas designs on them and alert men to the utility of wrapping with it.
Still trying to figure out what to buy my children, 23, 21, for Xmas. They want nothing. Philanthropic, meaningful ideas welcome.
@JeffJarvis. We'd better hope ads go online. Metro papers are ankle-bitten by free dailies, suburban and niche papers. They'd get ads first.
@ColleenCoplick Well, it's not like I'm not watching the game.
What am I doing working on Saturday night?
@jayrosen_nyu No, no, I was looking at Buzzmachine, which suggests so. Transition to a hybrid is the only medium-term strategy. Agreed.
@jayrosen_nyu Hey, it's not my money.
@jiconoclast Completely true, so if a printing press closed, all sorts of print-dependent revenue would vaporize.
@jeffjarvis Advertisers can't be forced. They just put the money back in the pocket or try the closest thing to what disappeared.
@jayrosen_nyu OK, newspapers are now delivering about 80-95% of revenue. Why would anyone shut one and go online-only ---- yet?
@howardowens News economics are highly misunderstood. Two decades of managing and I'm still scratching my head at times.
@jayrosen_nyu Apologies. A little note of sarcasm in my use of the language. Jubilance is hardly the note of the moment.
@huffpost It was a touch of sarcasm in the comment.
@jayrosen_nyu Lots of attached ed costs: benefits, marketing, HR, IT, finance, research. Some think it's just payroll and expenses. Not so.

themediamanager.com: What to do when the online revenue comes in?: The editor of the Los Ang.. http://tinyurl.com/9s8vpr
@jayrosen_nyu Forget the naive ad revenue calculation. A newsroom legal, rent, travel, expense, technical support and gear almost = payroll.
LA Times newsroom payroll met by online revenue is only one small step up a very long hill. Newsrooms are not breakaway republics.
