(July 18, 2006) Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) thanked 22-year-old Juan Alvarez of Downey for his assistance in her Washington, D.C. office during a one-month summer internship that ends July 28. Juan graduated from Paramount High School in the City of Paramount in 2001 and is currently a senior at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles where he is studying public policy with an emphasis in law and society. As one of eight students in the country to participate in the prestigious National Association of Latino Elected & Appointed Officials' (NALEO) internship program, Juan is working in the congresswoman's office performing a wide range of duties. His responsibilities include assisting with legislative research, attending legislative briefings on policy issues and managing constituent correspondence. Juan is the son of Juan and Martha Alvarez who have made Downey their home for about 10 years. Following graduation from USC in December, Juan plans to attend law school and one day enter public service. For more information about internship opportunities in the congresswoman's district or Washington, D.C. offices, students who live in the 34th Congressional District are encouraged to call her district office at (213) 628-9230.
