Rep. Baird to Join Troop Deployment Send-off at Tacoma Dome
Thanks troops for their commitment and service, wishes them safe, speedy return
 
     

Tacoma, WA - U.S. Rep. Brian Baird will be in Tacoma Saturday afternoon to wish
the 81st Armored Brigade well as they embark for duty in Iraq.  Rep. Baird will join an estimated 15,000 family members expected at tomorrow’s ceremony, saying farewell to the largest deployment of state guardsmen and women since World War II. 

“It is so important to express respect and gratitude to our soldiers and their families for their commitment, service to our nation and their sacrifice,” said Rep. Baird.  “We all wish them Godspeed, a successful mission and a quick and safe return.”

At 3,500 members, the  81st Armored Brigade is the largest unit of the Washington Army National Guard.  Saturday’s event will begin a year-long deployment for the 81st  in support of the mission in Iraq.
