Summary

GAO reviewed the Nuclear Regulatory Commission's (NRC) new rule on fee recovery for fiscal year 2006. GAO found that (1) the rule amends the licensing, inspection, and annual fees charged to NRC's applicants and licensees and requires that the NRC recover approximately 90 percent of its budget authority in fiscal year 2006, less the amounts appropriated from the Nuclear Waste Fund; and (2) NRC complied with applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
