(October 26, 2004) During Teach for America Week in October, Congresswoman Roybal-Allard met with a third grade class at the Camino Nuevo Charter Academy in the Westlake area of Los Angeles to discuss her work in Congress. The congresswoman talked about her experiences growing up in Boyle heights and encouraged the children to pursue their dreams. As part of the annual event, leaders from all professions serve as guest teachers in schools throughout the country to raise awareness about the importance of expanding educational opportunities for children growing up in low-income communities.
