(October 18, 2006) Downtown, Los Angeles - Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard tours Art Share LA guided by Executive Director Kate Becker (shown right in first photo) during a benefit at the organization's Fourth Place headquarters in downtown. The two-story facility houses classrooms, gallery space, painting and pottery studios, a computer lab, executive offices, a 99-seat black box theatre and dance floor and 30 residential lofts for low-income artists. Founded in 1997, Art Share's dedicated staff of teachers, social workers and volunteers service hundreds of children throughout Los Angeles at their center in downtown and on-site at public schools in and around Los Angeles. The non-profit's programs touch students of all ages and vary from writing classes to performance art and dance. An early supporter of Art Share LA, the congresswoman secured $150,000 in federal funds for its technology instruction for at-risk youth. The event was hosted by actress, writer, musician Michele Domínguez Greene (shown right in second photo) who appeared on the television show "L.A. Law." The launch of Ms. Greene's new teen mystery novel Chasing the Jaguar benefited Art Share LA and also served as the event's theme.
