(March 29, 2006) Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) joined General Wesley Clark, former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, President of the International Association of Firefighters Harold Schaitberger and many of her congressional colleagues in the U.S. House and Senate this week in unveiling a comprehensive homeland security agenda for our nation. The plan calls for efforts to immediately implement the recommendations of the independent, bipartisan 9/11 Commission, which include efforts to secure the nation's ports, airports and mass transit systems. The agenda also calls for the following: 100 percent screening of containers and cargo bound for the United States in ships or airplanes at the point of origin; rebuilding the military; equipping and training first responders and others on the front lines; providing needed benefits to our troops and veterans; fully manning and equipping the National Guard; promoting alternative fuels to reduce our nation's dependence on foreign oil; and taking steps to restore the nation's confidence in the government's ability to respond in the face of a terrorist attack or natural disaster.
