(March 29, 2006) Washington, D.C. - At the request of Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard who is a member of the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services and Education, Mr. Carl E. Coan, President & CEO of Eisner Pediatric & Family Medical Center in Downtown, Los Angeles, testified before the subcommittee about the important role of community health centers in providing critical pediatric services to children in underserved areas. The Eisner Pediatric & Family Medical Center, located at Venice Blvd and Olive Street in the 34th Congressional District, is a private non-profit community-based organization dedicated to providing the working poor and uninsured patients with medical, dental and mental health services, children's day care and early intervention programs. Mr. Coan explained to the subcommittee's members the many benefits of providing low-income children with dental care and child development services needed for early literacy, speech and language development, behavior modification and acquiring positive socialization skills. The center's programs are highly utilized in the community, resulting in more than 75,000 patient visits per year.
