CONGRESSWOMAN LUCILLE ROYBAL-ALLARD (CA-34) ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR COMMUNITY PROJECTS

Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) is pleased to announce today's passage in the U.S. House of Representatives of a spending measure that includes federal funding for key transportation and community projects that she championed for the communities she represents.

"It is consistently more challenging to secure funding for our local needs," said Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34), a member of the House Appropriations Committee.  "This challenge makes this year's hard-fought battle for appropriations funds an even greater victory for our communities."

Due to the efforts of Congresswoman Roybal-Allard, the following projects received funding under the Fiscal Year 2006 Transportation, Treasury, HUD Appropriations measure (HR 3058), which passed on November 18 by a vote of 392 to 31:

  • $80 million for the next federal payment for construction of the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension which will bring safe, efficient, and reliable transportation to the transit dependent communities of Boyle Heights, East LA, Little Tokyo, the Arts District, and downtown Los Angeles.  Completion of the Gold Line to East LA will provide area residents with greater and easier access to jobs, entertainment, shopping and recreation throughout the Los Angeles region.
  • $400,000 for the City of Bell Gardens for a transportation center located at the city's recreation center;
  • $200,000 for the City of Huntington Park for renovation of the city's recreation center building;
  • $200,000 for the Variety Boys & Girls Club of Boyle Heights to renovate the Club's facilities that provide recreational, educational, and personal growth services to neighborhood youth;
  • $100,000 for the City of Bell Gardens to purchase a shuttle bus to transport seniors to vital appointments.

Following the expected passage of the measure in the U.S. Senate, the bill will go to the President for his signature.
