(July 20, 2005) Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) is joined by Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (CA-8) of the U.S. House of Representatives at a reception on Capitol Hill in honor of Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa's first trip to the nation's capital since taking office July 1. The reception -- hosted by Congresswoman Roybal-Allard and the three congressional caucuses made up of Hispanic, African American and Asian American/Pacific Islander Members of Congress -- took place amidst two days of visits with key national leaders to discuss the city's federal funding needs. At the invitation of Congresswoman Roybal-Allard, Mayor Villaraigosa met with Appropriations Chairman Jerry Lewis (CA-41); Appropriations Ranking Democrat David Obey (WI-7); and Congressman Hal Rogers (KY-5), Chair of the Appropriations Homeland Security Subcommittee. In addition, the mayor attended two key luncheons. A July 20 luncheon was hosted by Congresswoman Pelosi and chaired by Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren (CA-16), who is head of the California Democratic Congressional Delegation. The mayor was also the guest of honor at a July 21 luncheon hosted by the Congressional Hispanic Caucus.
