(May 3, 2005) Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard congratulates members of the Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team (APAIT) from downtown, Los Angeles. They were in Washington to be honored by Johnson & Johnson's Community Health Care Program for improving access to quality health care services for medically underserved populations. The Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team located in the 34th Congressional District was one of only eight awardees selected from a pool of more than 200 grant applicants. APAIT was established in 1987 to provide culturally-appropriate support and services to HIV-positive Asians and Pacific Islanders (APIs). Funding from the Johnson & Johnson Community Health Care Program will be used to expand APAIT's Case Management Program by providing one-on-one counseling, nutritional assistance, translation services, and assistance in obtaining public benefits. Through these services, clients will prevent or reduce progression of the disease.
