(March 24, 2005) Boyle Heights_ Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard accepts the Legislator of the Year Award from the Boyle Heights Chamber of Commerce. Born and raised in Boyle Heights, the congresswoman was honored for her ongoing efforts to bring needed federal funding to the community. The congresswoman was instrumental in securing funds for: the Metro Gold Line Eastside Extension which will stretch from East Los Angeles to downtown; White Memorial Medical Center in Boyle Heights to expand its neonatal intensive care, emergency care and cardiac care units; the Youth Opportunity Movement to expand to Boyle Heights and to build the Boyle Heights Technology Center; the East Los Angeles YMCA; various afterschool programs in Boyle Heights including Girls Today, Women Tomorrow; and the CLEAR program to combat gangs and violence.
