(October 23, 2007) Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (CA-34) greets Dalia Arreola and Anthony Hurtado, both of Huntington Park, during their first visit to our nation’s capital as participants in the People to People World Leadership Forum. Dalia is a 7th grade student at Henry T. Gage Middle School in Huntington Park. Anthony is a 6th grade student at the John Burroughs Middle School in Los Angeles. The program’s participants were nominated by teachers based on academic achievement, interest in government and international affairs, and leadership potential. As representatives of their schools and community, both students were among hundreds of students from throughout the country to travel to Washington, D.C. during the week of October 22-October 28 to learn about the inner-workings of our nation’s federal government. President Dwight Eisenhower established the People to People Ambassador Programs, which include the world leadership forum, in 1956 as a way of bringing together ordinary people from different states and countries to help solve differences through greater cultural understanding.
