During a taped message shown at the gathering, the congresswoman made the following statement: “I am honored and humbled to receive this year’s “Inspiración” Award because it comes from an organization whose outstanding staff and volunteers inspire and give hope to the young women of our community. Michele Deane and Nora Lopez – you are to be commended for your vision in starting a legacy of service and self-empowerment for the young girls of our community. To the mentors and volunteers, I applaud your commitment of time and dollars that help send a message to our young girls that they are valued. Through your support, you help these girls develop their talents and a sense of self-worth that allows them to excel …You are all “mi inspiración.”
