(July 19, 2007) Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard visits with 19-year-old Lanna Aguilera of Downey who is spending the summer in our nation’s capital interning at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Farm Service Agency. The opportunity was made possible through the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) internship program, which places students in a wide variety of work environments throughout the country. Lanna was among 426 students selected from a pool of more than 5,000 applicants for the highly competitive HACU program. At the agency, Lanna is working as a contract specialist, which allows her to learn about the federal regulations governing purchase orders made by the Farm Service Agency and the Foreign Agriculture Service. A Business Administration major in her junior year at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, Lanna said the work experience at the agency is reinforcing her interest in attending law school after graduation in 2009. Lanna is the daughter of Raquel and Mariano Aguilera of Downey and graduated from St. Joseph High School in Lakewood in 2005.
