(June 28, 2007) Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard (shown right) welcomed 17-year-old Anthony Castañeda of Bellflower to our nation’s capital to celebrate the opening of the Congressional Art Competition exhibit, "An Artistic Discovery." Anthony (second on right) won first place in the 14th Annual 34th Congressional District Student Art Competition chaired by Congresswoman Lucille Roybal-Allard. The Mayfair High School student’s water color, gouache, acrylic, and color pencil piece titled “Ancestral Wind” will be exhibited at the U.S. Capitol for one year. Anthony received a trip for three to Washington, D.C. to attend the national exhibit opening. Anthony was accompanied by his parents, Socorro Castañeda (second on left) and Jaime Castañeda (shown left), both of Bellflower. After the ceremony and reception honoring students from across the country, Congresswoman Roybal-Allard hosted lunch for the family in the Members dining room of the U.S. Capitol. They were also given a tour of the Capitol Building by a member of the congresswoman’s staff. A recent high school graduate, Anthony said he plans to further his education at an area community college or art school.
