Rogers Announces $55,080 Grant for
East Alabama Fire Protection District
Grant Will Fund Fire Prevention

Washington, DC  -  U.S. Rep. Mike Rogers congratulated the East Alabama Water, Sewer and Fire Protection District today for receiving a $55,080 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

“The men and women of the East Alabama Water, Sewer and Fire Protection District are citizens’ first line of defense,” Rogers said. “This grant will provide direct support for their work, and ultimately make Chambers County a safer place to live.”

The Fire Prevention Program, a key component of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, is administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and provides funds for public education and awareness activities, fire codes enforcement activities, fire inspector certifications, purchase and installation of smoke alarms and fire suppression systems, wild land fire mitigation, and arson prevention and detection activities.

“I also would also like to thank state senator Gerald Dial and state representative DuWayne Bridges for their assistance with this project,” Rogers said.

Passed by Congress and signed into law by President Bush, the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program provides funds to the nation’s firefighters to increase the effectiveness of fire department operations, improve fire fighter health and safety programs, purchase new equipment, enhance EMS programs, and support prevention and safety programs.
