As a solo you don't have one boss. You have a hundred bosses, who think they're your only boss.

The technology you choose is less important than the technology you'll use.
It takes at least as much time to learn the business of law as it did to learn the law itself.
You can’t expect someone to appreciate your expertise if you fail to appreciate theirs.
@jasonfried "Getting Real" was a business book. Lots to learn for lawyers. Design was just your lens for sharing solid advice for all biz.
@leannahamill Totally stealing that one. So much better than "Learning to get clients is less important than knowing which ones to keep."
RT @leannahamill: @matthomann Also, the clients you don't take are as vital to your practice as the clients you do take.
RT @lisasolomon: Husband, NY litigator w/25 yrs. ins. defense exp., laid off due to co acquisition. Resume http://twurl.nl/63xiqt
If you’re thinking of opening a general practice, remember this: Your clients don’t have “general” legal problems, they have specific ones....
@carolynelefant Will do. Testing some of the "rules" here as I edit them for the post.
Your solo practice is far more likely to fail because you're a bad business person than it is because you're a bad lawyer.
As a solo lawyer, the good news is that you can do whatever you want and you answer only to yourself. That’s also the bad news.
