Spatial Data Download

Follow this link to access the spatial data download interface. Users will be able to select which data layers to download. Note: Data layers are compressed and available for download in the following formats:

  • ESRI Shapefile: This popular data format represents spatial phenomenon as a series of points, lines, or polygons. Desktop GIS software packages, such as ESRI's ArcGIS product line, can be used to analyze Digital Coast: Legislative Atlas shapefiles with other data sets. In addition, there are numerous freeware, shareware and commercial products, such as ArcGIS Explorer, which can be used to view shapefiles.

  • Google Earth KMZ: This data format consists of compressed (zipped) *.kml files for viewing in Google Earth software. Once opened in Google Earth, users have the ability to view legislative summaries for each data layer by clicking on the layer name within the Places window and following the hyperlink within the resultant attribute pop-up window.

Note: Because the data are provided in the .zip format, additional software may be required, such as PKZIP® or UnZip, a free, open-source unzipping utility.

Digital Coast: Legislative Atlas data layers are also provided in a Web Feature Service (WFS) format. WFS is an Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC)-compliant protocol, based on XML, which allows uniform access to geographic features. Once a user has connected to a WFS service within a desktop GIS software package such as ArcGIS, they have the ability to perform analyses with other spatial data sets. However, the spatial data remains on a centralized server. Click here to download instructions for adding Legislative Atlas data layers in a WFS format to ArcGIS.
