Closure - Whittier Access Road |
Whittier Access Road: at Begich Peak Tunnel Entrance road closed intermittently, roadway reduced to one lane -- wait for the escort vehicle, pilot car in operation, drive carefully daily Comment: Single lane traffic will be escorted through the slide area by pilot car and will continue on a daily basis until normal two-lane traffic is re-established. There will be two daily two-hour road openings 5 a.m., to 7 a.m., and 7:30 p.m., to 9:30 p.m. All Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel fees will be waived for this weekend May 8 -10th. Normal tunnel fees will be reinstated beginning Monday, May 11th. The current shuttle train service, provided in cooperation with the Alaska Railroad, will be continued until further notice.
