SCHAKOWSKY'S
STATEMENT FOLLOWING
PRESIDENT BUSH'S ADDRESS
ON IRAQ
CHICAGO,
IL - U.S. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) issued the following statement
after President Bush's address to the nation on Iraq:
"I
am terribly disappointed that the President has slammed the door on diplomacy.
It appears that the US is within hours of launching an unwise and unnecessary
war, and establishing a frightful new doctrine of preemption. I believe
that this war, rather than making Americans safer, will put us at greater
risk. I, along with millions of people at home and around the world,
believe that war represents a failure to disarm Saddam Hussein without
violence, an option that President Bush has not fully explored.
"My
thoughts are with the hundreds of thousands of our young men and women
who will soon be placed in harms way, hoping they will return safely to
their families."
