A “Lectures in the Humanities and Social Sciences” Series Event.

Writer and historian Daniel Mark Epstein discussed his latest book, “Lincoln and Whitman: Parallel Lives in Civil War Washington” (Random House), at the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. Daniel Epstein is a poet, dramatist and biographer with 12 books in print. Epstein has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship and the Prix de Rome from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

In 1998 Epstein published an acclaimed translation of Euripides’ play “The Bacchae.” His biography of Nat King Cole was a New York Times “notable book” of 1999, and his biography of Edna St. Vincent Millay was a New York Public Library “Books to Remember Selection” in 2001.

The Center for the Book in the Library of Congress was established in 1977 to stimulate public interest in books, reading and libraries. The Humanities and Social Sciences Division provides reference service and collection development in the Main, Local History and Genealogy and Microform reading rooms and sponsors lectures in the arts, humanities and social sciences.
