World War I:
An Annotated Bibliography
Military Newspapers in the Microform Collection
During World War I the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), in a partnership
with selected city newspapers, published free weekly editions for Army, Navy,
and Marine Corps posts, bases, and camps throughout the United States. Entitled Trench
and Camp, these special editions provided soldiers with war news,
camp news, sports, and entertainment. In addition, each Trench
and Camp was a channel of communication to the troops from the President,
Congress, and War Department. The Library of Congress microfilmed only those
issues that were deposited according to its agreement with U.S. Army and
the associated newspaper publishers. The years of coverage include 1917,
1918, and part of 1919. The following list provides the name of the military
camp, the state in which the camp was located, and the Library of Congress
