Natural Resources

snow goose The Lake Champlain Basin's living natural resources, including fish, wildlife and nuisance nonnative aquatic species such as sea lamprey, are part of a complex ecosystem. These plants and animals depend on interconnected aquatic and terrestrial habitats, such as the broad open waters of the Lake, the rivers and streams that flow into it, wetlands and shallow water flats, islands, forests, agricultural lands and other areas. Humans are also part of the ecosystem, and in many places the effects of human activities, land use changes, and development have had severe adverse consequences on local ecosystems.
