Professional Highlights

•    Senior geotechnical engineer in safety and highway design; •    Promotes innovative technologies, including soil nailing, micropiles, soil mixing, and various methods of ground improvement •    Providing training in basic soils and foundations, earth retaining structures, drilled shafts, pile driving construction control, geosynthetics, and slope maintenance and slide restoration •    Before FHWA, gained extensive experience in geology and geotechnical engineering by working for a State DOT and in private consulting •    Provided specialized training to North Dakota DOT on drilled shaft construction and construction inspection; •    Helped prepare NDDOT for their first-ever drilled shaft project, which was to support a 4400-foot, 26-span bridge on 13-foot diameter shafts over Lake Sakakawea on the Missouri River •    Accompanied Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities personnel on a damage assessment trip following the 2002 Denali Earthquake •    In response to recent large construction claims attributed to geotechnical problems, conducted a comprehensive review of the State’s geotechnical program, for the Montana Division and the Montana Department of Transportation •    Reviewed the PS&E and conducted a site visit to a proposed soil nail/ground anchor wall in Des Moines, IA, along a widening project on I-235; •    The contract called for soil nail walls, but the contractor proposed ground anchor walls instead at additional cost, claiming that soil nail walls were not constructible
