Top on the list of advice for President-elect Obama from federal HR executives is to issue a “national call to government service” and make people issues a presidential priority according to Elevating Our Federal Workforce: Chief Human Capital Offices Offer Advice to President Obama, a new report from the Partnership and Grant Thornton LLP. Based on a survey of federal chief human capital officers, the report cites four key recommendations for President-elect Obama as he gets ready to take charge of the 1.9 million federal workforce.
According to a new poll released by the Partnership and Gallup, Americans continue to think poorly of their government in general. However, the survey suggests that there are a broad range of opportunities for President-elect Obama to dramatically shift public opinions of government, and usher in a new era where Americans look to the federal government as part of the solution, not the problem.
The health of the federal government is eroding and unless the next president moves past piecemeal reforms there will be serious consequences for the nation, according to Roadmap to Reform: A Management Framework for the Next Administration released by the Partnership for Public Service.

In the Wall Street Journal, Max Stier, the president and CEO of the Partnership for Public Service, and Gary Ginsberg, an executive vice president of News Corp. who served on the Clinton transition team in 1992, advise presidential candidates on three things they should do to ensure the next presidency gets off to the right start.
