TVA Extends Comment Period on Mountain Reservoirs Land Management Plan

October 2, 2008

TVA has extended the deadline to submit comments on an environmental review of a plan that will guide the use of TVA-managed land on nine mountain reservoirs in three states.

The deadline for receiving public comments has been extended to Oct. 31.

TVA staff has completed a draft environmental impact statement for the Mountain Reservoirs Land Management Plan and is encouraging public comments on alternatives for managing reservoir property on Apalachia, Blue Ridge, Chatuge, Fontana, Hiwassee, Nottely, Ocoee 1, Ocoee 2 and Ocoee 3 reservoirs. The reservoirs are located in Tennessee, North Carolina and Georgia.

TVA develops land management plans for reservoirs to provide clear direction on how TVA intends to manage the reservoir land and to facilitate decision-making for use of the public land.

The public may review the draft environmental impact statement and alternatives for use of the TVA-managed lands at www.tva.com/environment/reports/mtnres/. Maps that show current designated land uses and how the land would be managed according to each alternative are available on the Web site. TVA developed the alternatives with public input.

The public may provide comments on the proposed alternatives on the Web site, by calling toll-free 1-866-601-4612, by writing to Mountain Reservoirs Land Management Plan, TVA NEPA Services (Attention Ken Parr), 1101 Market St. (LP 5U-C), Chattanooga, TN 37402-3230 or by email to Mountain_Reservoirs@tva.gov.

All comments received, including names and addresses, will become part of the administrative record and will be available for public inspection.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self financing. TVA provides power to large industries and 159 power distributors that serve approximately 8.8 million consumers in seven southeastern states. TVA also manages the Tennessee River and its tributaries to provide multiple benefits, including flood damage reduction, navigation, water quality and recreation.
