Comments on Reporting Hearings for the Federal Aviation Commission

A-57297 September 11, 1934

Summary

GAO commented on the matter of reporting hearings for the Federal Aviation Commission, to the effect that it has been estimated there would be about 3,000 pages of testimony set up in 8-point type, and with the charge at the Government Printing Office of approximately $4 per page, the resulting cost would be approximately $12,000 for the printing of 30 copies of the hearings for the Commission, plus $3,000 for the services of a reporter.

GAO determined that according to Civil Service Laws and the Classification Act of 1923, no money should be appropriated for the compensation of any publicity expert unless specifically appropriated for that purpose. Therefore, GAO advised that the hearings be reported with a bid for stenographic reporting services.
