Summary

Review of the status of accounts and properties under the Secretary of the Senate at the close of business on March 31, 1977 showed a total balance of about $90 million. The cash on hand in the Senate Disbursing Office was counted; outstanding advances to committee chairmen and officials were confirmed; the accounts current for appropriated and other funds of the Disbursing Office were verified; furniture, office equipment, and computer equipment in the offices under the responsibility of the Secretary were inventoried; and the merchandise in the Senate stationery room was inventoried.

Examination of the Secretary's accountability for appropriated and other funds at the close of business on March 31, 1977 showed that there was a total balance in the U.S. Treasury of $90,266,007.03, a balance of $139,375.15 cash on hand, and $50,624.85 outstanding in advances to committee chairmen and officials. The Secretary's accountability for the Senate stationery room merchandise and cash at that time included $183,152.46 of merchandise (at cost) and $1,126.47 in cash and checks on hand. Complete inventories of the furniture, office equipment, and computer equipment for which the Secretary of the Senate is responsible are provided.
