Duncan Honored with First Annual Club for Growth Award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SEPTEMBER 29, 2006

Washington, D.C. - Congressman John J. Duncan, Jr. (R-TN) was recognized this week with the first annual Defender of Economic Freedom Award by the Club for Growth.  Duncan was 1 of only 36 Members of Congress to receive this award based on his support for economic growth issues.

The Club for Growth is the Nation's leading free-market advocacy organization with over 36,000 members.  The award is based on various votes during the First Session of the 109th Congress that the group tracked for their annual scorecard.

"With his score of 95, Congressman Duncan is clearly a hero of the pro-growth agenda.  He demonstrates a strong commitment to economic freedom and free-market principles," Club for Growth President Pat Toomey said.

The rating was derived from legislative actions that reflect the Club for Growth's immediate pro-economic policy goals, including:

  • Making the tax cuts permanent
  • Death tax repeal
  • Cutting and limiting government spending
  • Social Security reform
  • Expanding free trade
  • Legal reform to end abusive lawsuits
  • Replacing the current tax code
  • School choice
  • Regulatory reform and deregulation

"I appreciate the recognition by the Club for Growth and will continue to vote for policies that further the economic prosperity of our Nation," said Duncan.  "There are those of us in Congress who believe that taxpayers can spend their money better than the government can, and I think it's important that the people know that."
