The Lady Vols Go to Washington!

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
September 21, 2007

WASHINGTON, DC - Congressman John J. Duncan, Jr. (R-TN) today welcomed the National Champion Lady Vols to Capitol Hill. The basketball team won the NCAA Women's Basketball Title earlier this year.

The Lady Vols were greeted by Congressman Duncan on the steps of U.S. Capitol, where the team and the Congressman posed for pictures and he gave a brief history of the Capitol.

In April, the House of Representatives passed a resolution introduced by Congressman Duncan congratulating the Lady Vols on their National Championship victory over Rutgers University by a score of 59-46. The entire Tennessee Delegation co-sponsored the resolution.

The win also prompted the pay up of a friendly wager between Duncan and Congressman Frank Pallone of New Jersey, whose district includes Rutgers University. Per his word, Congressman Pallone delivered "Fat Cat" sandwiches from the University's "Grease Truck" to Congressman Duncan.

Congressman Duncan has been an honorary coach under Coach Pat Head Summitt on three occasions and is not shy to boast about his 3-0 record.

"I am very proud to be able to show off the Lady Vols around Capitol Hill," said Duncan. "Coach Summitt, her staff and her team deserve recognition for their accomplishment and I am the fortunate one to have the University of Tennessee in my Congressional District. Not every Member of Congress can say they have a National Champion sports team in their district."

Following the Lady Vols appearance on the Hill, they will travel to the White House for a ceremony with President Bush.
