House Passes Resolution Congratulating Lady Vols' 2007 National Title

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

APRIL 25, 2007

WASHINGTON, DC - The House of Representatives unanimously passed a resolution today honoring the University of Tennessee Women's Basketball team on winning their seventh NCAA Division I Women's Basketball National Title.

Congressman John J. Duncan, Jr. introduced the resolution following the Lady Vols victory over Rutgers University on April 3, 2007, by a score of 59-46.  The entire Tennessee Delegation co-sponsored the resolution.

Lady Vols Head Coach Pat Summitt collected her 947th win and seventh national title in her thirty-three seasons at UT.  Coach Summitt's winning record gives her the distinct honor of having more wins than any other college basketball coach, men's or women's.  She was also recently named the 2007 Southeastern Conference Coach of the Year.

"I am very proud of our Lady Vols for bringing another National Title back to Knoxville," said Duncan.  "While the Scarlet Knights put forth a tremendous effort, the Lady Vols emerged victorious.  Coach Summitt and her team deserve commendation for their contributions, on the court and off, to the University of Tennessee and to the legacy of women's sports."

The Lady Vols finished the season 34-3.
