Vonore Municipal Fire Department to Receive Federal Grant

For Immediate Release

March 12, 2007

Washington, D.C. - Congressman John J. Duncan, Jr., (R-Tenn.) announced today that the Vonore Municipal Fire Department will receive $33,345 in federal grant funding.  The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Preparedness Directorate Office of Grants and Training will administer the award through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.

The AFG program distributes one-year grants directly to local fire departments, improving their ability to respond to fires and fire-related hazards.  This important source of funding supports selected departments across the Country by providing them the resources necessary to protect the health and safety of the public and their firefighting personnel.

These funds can be used to increase the effectiveness of firefighting procedures, fund firefighter health and safety programs, enhance emergency medical services, and improve fire prevention and safety education.

"I am very pleased to announce that this money will be available to the Vonore Municipal Fire Department to assist their efforts to protect the community," Duncan said.  "These brave firefighters deserve the best equipment possible, and this grant is an important step in ensuring the safety of our citizens."
