Their books have won the Coretta Scott King Award, Newbery Honor, Notable Children's Trade Book and American Library Association Best Book for Young Adults awards. Books by the McKissacks include "Black Hands, White Sails: The Story of African-American Whalers," "Black Diamond: The Story of the Negro Baseball Leagues," "Christmas in the Big House, Christmas in the Quarters" and "Sojourner Truth: Ain't I A Woman?". The McKissacks make their home outside of St. Louis, Mo.
