EVENT ANNOUNCEMENT:
7TH ANNUAL WU ENVIRONMENTAL FORUM
FEDERAL AGRICULTURAL POLICY & OUR ENVIRONMENT

OREGON -- On Tuesday, May 29, 2007, Congressman David Wu will convene his 7th annual environmental forum at the Cornelius City Council Chambers. This year the forum will focus on federal agricultural policy and how environmental concerns affect that policy.

Congressman Wu chose agricultural policy as this year's topic because federal agricultural laws are due to be renewed. The forthcoming legislation, commonly referred to as the Farm Bill, funds food programs for low income families, sets price supports for farmers, and invests in numerous conservation programs. The issues at hand in this year’s bill include how growing influences such as climate change and energy prices will shape the traditional farm bill.

"The environment is influenced by policies set forth in the Farm Bill. It is important that we have an open dialogue among the agricultural and environmental communities so the bill includes proper and balanced environmental provisions as well as continued support for farmers and their families," said Congressman Wu.

Congressman Wu's forum represents an opportunity for constituents to share their thoughts about how to shape the Farm Bill in a way that minimizes negative effects on the environment while keeping the United States, and especially Oregon, competitive in the global agricultural economy.
