Tenth District Congressman Donald Payne has announced that several cities in the 10th Congressional District have been awarded grants from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for housing and community revitalization programs.
Three Public Housing Authorities received a total of $232,138 for renewal of its Rental Certificate/Housing Choice Voucher Family Self-Sufficiency Program Coordinators. Jersey City was awarded $107,452, East Orange $62,500 and Newark received $62,186. The family self sufficiency program is designed to enable participating families to achieve economic independence and self –sufficiency.
The city of Newark was awarded $21,816,272 for the Community Development Block Grant, the HOME Investment Partnership Program, the Emergency Shelter Program, and the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) Program. These funds may be used for a variety of activities, such as rental housing development, homeownership assistance, homelessness prevention and essential services, economic development, public facilities and infrastructure; and programs that benefit low and moderate income persons.
Payne said, “As a strong advocate for affordable housing and community revitalization, I will continue to work closely with the Department to ensure that the citizens of the 10th Congressional District receive the much needed federal resources.”
