As a strong supporter in Congress
of public transportation funding, I am pleased that we have been successful
in launching this innovative approach to meeting the needs of local New
Jersey communities, including West Orange.
In addition to providing enhanced access for commuters, the shuttle
bus program will also help communities offer rides to seniors and others
in need of this valuable service. Access to transportation is a key element
of enhanced economic development, and I look forward to continuing our
efforts at the federal level to assist New Jersey communities.
It is important that all of us continue working together to ensure that
New Jersey gets its fair share of federal funding for local needs. The
funding secured during consideration of the TEA-21 legislation in Congress
was an important step forward, and we hope to build on that success in
the future.
