Summary

GAO reviewed the Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) new rule on pollution requirements. GAO found that (1) the rule would implement section 316(b) of the Clean Water Act for certain existing power-producing facilities that employ a cooling water intake structure and are designed to withdraw 50 million gallons per day or more from waters of the Unites States for cooling purposes, establishing national requirements applicable to the location, design, construction, and capacity of cooling water intake structures at these facilities; and (2) EPA complied with all applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
