When Coeta Barker began spending winters in the Coachella Valley, she developed friendships, but also saw an opportunity to help the area through the foundation that she and her late husband Donald established in 1977. Many grants followed. Before she passed away in 2004, the Coeta and Donald Barker Foundation endowed a scholarship to help students enrolled in the bachelor of science in nursing program at CSUSB’s Palm Desert Campus.
