Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund (PCSRF)
What is PCSRF?
In 2000, the Oregon Watershed Enhancement Board (OWEB) on behalf of the State of Oregon received its first allocation of funding from the Pacific Coastal Salmon Recovery Fund (PCSRF). OWEB is responsible for distributing this money to local entities for salmon recovery. Congress established the PCSRF because of the Endangered Species Act (ESA) listing of the West Coast salmon and steelhead populations and requests by the governors of Oregon, California, Washington, Idaho and Alaska and the Pacific Coast and Columbia River tribes in response to the listing.  The fund, administered by NOAA Fisheries, is intended to be used for planning, restoration, education and monitoring projects that will specifically benefit salmon and steelhead species.

The PCSRF funds are especially important in the State of Oregon since they are used, in part, to support 90 Watershed Councils and 45 Soil and Water Conservation Districts.  Since 2000, approximately $88 million has been distributed by OWEB for Education, Watershed Assessment, Technical Assistance and Monitoring grants.  When PCSRF funds are matched with Oregon Lottery funds for on-the-ground-restoration, OWEB has been able to support more than 6,600 grants.

Annually OWEB is required to submit information about PCSRF-funded projects and data related to projects funded by state resources to the PCSRF database.  This database contains specific information pertaining to each project including financial and habitat restoration information.  A user can query the PCSRF database for salmon recovery projects located throughout the states of Oregon, California, Washington, Idaho and Alaska.  An Interactive Mapping Tool  is also provided for producing maps.
