New Program Overview |
The 2007 Oregon Legislature created the Oregon Streetcar Project Fund for the purpose of financing grants to municipalities for purchase of contemporary rail-based streetcars used in public transit systems. The streetcars are to be purchased from an Oregon–owned and Oregon-based manufacturer. It is estimated that up to 300 permanent new manufacturing jobs may be created as a result of this project. There will be up to $20 million dollars of lottery backed revenue available for this project. Bonds are slated to be sold in the first quarter of 2009.

New Administrative Rule |
Oregon Department of Transportation, Public Transit Division, has been assigned to administer the project and in April the Oregon Transportation Commission adopted administrative rules to implement the grant process. (See Administrative Rule) For more information about the Oregon Streetcar Project contact the Public Transit Division.
