What is AFIX?

Oregon AFIX is a process designed to give you specific information about the immunization rates and practices in your office.

The data included describe details such as coverage rates by age of children, rates by vaccine, missed opportunities, and others.

The Oregon Academy of Family Physicians (OAFP), the Oregon Pediatric Society (OPS), and the Oregon Immunization Program now offer the "Certificate of Commitment to Excellent Childhood Immunization Practices" to qualifying clinics/practices through Oregon AFIX. Please call the Immunization Program for details.

Why AFIX?

  1. "Annual assessment of clinic-based immunization rates and practices is one of the 17 Standards for Child and Adolescent Immunization Practices."
    Pediatrics 2003; 112; 958-963
  2. "Strong scientific evidence exists that assessment and feedback of vaccination coverage information to providers are effective in improving vaccination coverage."
Briss, Peter A., et al. American Journal of Preventive Medicine 2000; 18 (1S)
  3. "Provider practices play a critical role in underimmunization... Failure to assess immunization status can contribute to missed opportunities to immunize regardless of the type of visit."
NVAC. Strategies to Sustain Success in Childhood Immunizations. JAMA. 1999. 282(4): 363-370.
  4. The National Vaccine Advisory Committee recommends that "All immunization providers, public and private, should assess the immunization coverage levels of their patients annually."
NVAC. Strategies to Sustain Success in Childhood Immunizations. JAMA. 1999. 282(4): 363-370.
  5. The Oregon Academy of Family Physicians and the Oregon Pediatric Society make available a "Certificate of Commitment to Excellent Childhood Immunization Practices" to qualifying clinics that participate in AFIX.
