Practitioner-Managed Prescription Drug Plan

Drug coverage under the Oregon Health Plan has changed and this affects you.

We asked Oregon experts (doctors, pharmacists and nurse practitioners) to help pick out the drugs that are the best for most patients. These experts compared different drugs to find out which worked the best and which were safer for most patients. The drugs that were picked are on the Plan Drug List (PDL).

Your practitioner was told which drugs are on the list. When your practitioner prescribes a drug from the PDL, it will be paid for by the Division of Medical Assistance Programs (DMAP).

What if my practitioner doesn’t think the drug on the list is right for me?
Your practitioner can write a prescription for drugs that are not on the PDL. Your practitioner must write on the prescription that the drug prescribed for you is necessary for you. If your practitioner does not write that the drug is necessary, your drug will not be paid for and the pharmacist or you will need to contact your practitioner.

What if the drug I am taking now is not on the PDL?
You should talk to your practitioner about which medication will best meet your medical needs.

What if my practitioner thinks the medication on the list is good for me, but I want a different medication?
If your practitioner thinks that a drug on the PDL is right for you and you want a drug not on the list, it will not be paid for.
