Ground school is a class that helps people to acquire the knowledge they need to become safe and competent pilots, while also preparing them to take the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Knowledge Test required for a Private Pilot certificate. Click here for more detailed information.

Customized Group Tours with Age-Appropriate Activities

Personally guided, age-appropriate group tours are available. Group tours are followed by an exciting, hands-on seminar/activity of your choice (with advance arrangement). Activity topics can be adapted to the class's age/ability level.

Tours include:
History of Aviation from people's earliest dreams to today.
Science of Flight. This hands-on activity includes a creative glider building project. Older children will learn the basics of aerodynamics and the four forces of flight.
Aviation Scavenger Hunt. Students learn fun facts about the aviation exhibits while they explore the museum on their own.
Flight Lab. Custom designed, age appropriate simulations using state of the art simulator software and specially designed curriculum to teach the basics of flight, navigation, and aircraft operations.
A Conversation in History. Many of the museum's volunteers are veterans with experiences in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. With prior notification school groups can interview a veteran who has first hand experience in their area of interest.

Discovery Ambassadors

This program for ages 12-18 allows youth to develop their communication and presentation skills while earning resumé-building experience in a safe and enjoyable environment.

By becoming a member of our team, you will get to do exciting hands-on demonstrations for museum visitors on weekends. Located throughout the museum are Discovery Carts that contain fun educational materials such as a wind tunnel and unique historical memorabilia. Using these supplies, you will present and explain concepts such as aerodynamics, aerospace science, and forces in motion, while also highlighting space program spin-offs and bringing the tales of historical figures to life.

As a Discovery Ambassador you will have the opportunity to learn cool new things, gain valuable experience, be a part of a rewarding team, and make new friends!
