Unemployment Benefits Extension Information
On November 20, 2008, Congress passed legislation that added benefits to EUC claims. The legislation is effective November 23, 2008. The week ending November 29, 2008 is the first week for which the additional benefits can be paid.
The existing EUC program will now provide benefits equal to 80% of the maximum benefit amount of the person's regular claim or 20 weeks of benefits, whichever is less. For most claimants this will mean an additional 7 weeks of EUC benefits.
If you are eligible, you will receive notification in the mail. If you have not worked since you last claimed EUC, all you need to do is claim the week ending November 29, 2008 anytime during the week of November 30 to December 6, 2008. If you have worked since you last claimed, go to Online Claims and restart your claim. Restarting online will let you avoid telephone wait times.
Oregon remains in an Extended Benefits (EB) period. However, EB cannot be paid until a claimant exhausts all regular and EUC benefits. EB is a claim of last resort.
