REP. JOHNSON ANNOUNCES NEW CENTER AISLE CAUCUS WEBSITE

Washington, D.C. -  U.S. Rep. Timothy V. Johnson today announced the posting of a new website to keep constituents informed of the activities of the Center Aisle Caucus.

“We’re proud of the work of the Center Aisle Caucus and want to do all we can to keep our activities – and our mission – at the forefront of national dialogue,” Rep. Johnson said. “There is so much unnecessary acrimony over so many issues, I want people to know there are members of Congress who are dedicated to civil debate, to seeking common ground and to the cause of collegiality even when we disagree.”

     The website is at www.house.gov/timjohnson/CAC/.

Rep. Johnson, R-IL, formed the Center Aisle Caucus in early 2005 with Rep. Steve Israel, D-NY. The caucus has since expanded to 58 members, split between Republicans and Democrats.

The website includes a listing of all members, a description of the caucus’s mission and activities, along with other information.

Recent speakers have included former Democratic Speaker Tom Foley, now the U.S. ambassador to Japan; former Republican House Minority Leader Bob Michel of Peoria; Doris Kearns Goodwin, presidential historian and Pulitzer Prize winning author of “Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln; and Ambassador Sumaidaie, the Iraqi ambassador to the United States.

“I hope people will avail themselves of this site and feel free to contact my office or Rep. Israel’s with their ideas,” Rep. Johnson said. “We’re all weary of the partisanship that all too often stifles meaningful debate. The Center Aisle Caucus is at least one vehicle for taking Congress and the nation to the next level.”
