PONTIAC, IROQUOIS OFFICIALS TO HOLD PRESS CONFERENCE

Devastation of January floods still felt as towns appeal denial
of federal aid

DATE:            Monday, February 11, 2008
TIME:             2:30pm CST
LOCATION:   Pontiac City Hall Chambers
                      115 W Howard Street
                      Pontiac, Illinois 61764

DIRECTIONS: From I-55, take exit 197 into Pontiac.  Follow route 116 heading east.  City hall is on Howard Street (route 116) in downtown Pontiac, IL.

MEDIA:  The city of Pontiac will make available resources for the media, including dedicated parking for satellite feed trucks.
Special media requests should be made to city hall at 1-815-844-3396.

TOPIC:  City of Pontiac Mayor Scott H. McCoy will address the historic and record-breaking flooding that occurred in January, 2008, including the denial for a federal disaster declaration by FEMA and President Bush.  The mayor will also speak to the devastation, massive impact, and great personal loss that Pontiac residents have been living with for the past month.

In addition, Iroquois county was also denied a federal disaster declaration for their massive flooding -- and both communities are now working very closely together along with U.S. Rep. Timothy V. Johnson to appeal the FEMA decision.

Mayor McCoy, along with officials from Watseka and Iroquois County, will introduce several families and individuals that are now homeless because of this disaster. The media will have the opportunity to interview them and tour their damaged homes.

All of these people are upset that FEMA denied the federal assistance and believe that our smaller communities in middle-America are being overlooked.  Mayor McCoy will take questions from the media.

Flood photos, aerial video, and other resources will be available to the media.
