Summary

Pursuant to a legislative requirement, GAO reviewed the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) new rule on the use of 28 GHz and 31 GHz bands for local multipoint distribution service. GAO noted that: (1) the rule would establish service and competitive bidding rules for the new local multipoint distribution service, a fixed broadband point-to-multipoint microwave service for which the rule allocates additional spectrum in the 31.0-31.3 GHz band; and (2) FCC complied with applicable requirements in promulgating the rule.
