CPSC, Pokémon USA Announce Recall of Pokémon Plush Toys

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, in cooperation with the firm named below, today announced a voluntary recall of the following consumer product. Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Pokémon Plush Toys

Units: About 9,200

Importer: Pokémon USA Inc. of New York, N.Y.

Hazard: The stuffing of the toy may contain tips of sewing needles which could pose a puncture hazard.

Incidents/Injuries: None reported.

Description: The recall involves 10 “Pokédoll” plush toy characters including Pikachu, Minun, Plusle, Skitty, Evee, Munchlax, Mew, Ho-Oh, and Lugia. Pikachu comes in a 12-inch and a 6-inch tall version. All of the other characters are approximately 6-inches tall. They have a sewn-in label that reads: “Pokémon Center ©2005 Pokémon /Nintendo /Creatures/ GAME FREAK” on one side and “2005 MADE IN CHINA” on the other.

Sold at: Nintendo World, 10 Rockefeller Plaza, New York City, and on the firm’s Web site from April 2005 through June 2005 for between $8 and $20. The PokéDoll plush toys were also given away as promotions by Nintendo of America Inc. at the E3 Conference in Los Angeles in May 2005.

Manufactured in: China

Remedy: Parents should take these toys away from children immediately and contact Pokémon USA to receive a free replacement toy.
