3 area projects receive transportation grants

Three projects in Wayne and Union counties [Indiana] have received federal Transportation Enhancement funds through the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Transportation enhancement funds are provided by the Federal Highway Administration on an 80/20-match basis.

Wayne County received $646,845 for rehabilitation and historical preservation of bridge No. 173 on Mineral Springs Road in Greens Fork. Wayne County is responsible for $129,369 of the projected construction costs.

The Town of Milton received a $200,000 beautification grant for street lighting. The new lights will be placed along Central Avenue from South Street to the north edge of the town along Ind. 1. Milton will provide $50,000 of the projected $250,000 cost.

West College Corner in Union County received $31,224 for a beautification project in the community's downtown area that will include the installation of carriage lights, park benches, planters and signage. West College Corner is responsible for $7,812 of the project cost.

The three area projects were among the four approved by INDOT in its November awards announcement. There were seven applicants for the funds.
